Barolo Brunate 2018 – Giuseppe Rinaldi

Giuseppe Rinaldi, known as Beppe or "il Citrico", was one of the most authentic voices of traditional Barolo: historic vineyards, long fermentations, no concessions to fashion. Since his passing in 2018 the Barolo winery has been run by his daughters Marta and Carlotta, who carry his style forward. Rinaldi's bottles are among the most sought-after in the whole Langhe.

Brunate is one of the great crus straddling the communes of La Morra and Barolo, a south-facing amphitheatre that produces Barolo of great structure and depth. The wine ferments at length in wooden vats and matures in large Slavonian oak casks, with no barriques at all.

2018, a vintage with irregular weather, produced Barolos that are finer and more open than powerful. The Brunate combines cherry, rose, tar, orange and spice with firm yet elegant tannins and long savouriness. A classic Barolo in the highest sense, for the cellar, one of the benchmarks alongside Bartolo Mascarello. With braised beef, tajarin with truffle and aged cheeses.
