Francesco Clerico, born in 1939 in Bussia itself, in Monforte d'Alba, took over the family estate in the early 1990s. Today it is a small family winery of about 5 hectares, all in Bussia, farmed under certified organic practice, with Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. The Barolo Bussia is the house's main wine, alongside the Vigna Colonnello selection.
Bussia is one of Monforte's most celebrated geographical mentions, with calcareous marl soils that give structure and finesse. The wine is pure Nebbiolo: fermented in stainless steel with extended maceration, then aged for at least three years, 18 months of them in large oak casks, in a deliberately traditional style.
2020 was a warm but balanced vintage that produced harmonious Barolo, enjoyable even when young. Deep ruby with garnet glints; on the nose ripe red fruit, balsamic notes, tobacco and dark chocolate with a touch of spice; the palate shows controlled power, dense, fine tannins and lively acidity that lengthens the finish. For braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
