Founded in Reims in 1729, Ruinart is the oldest Champagne house still in business. Chardonnay is the heart of its style, and the Blanc de Blancs, in its unmistakable rounded bottle inspired by those of the 18th century, is its most representative expression.
It is made from Chardonnay alone, mainly from crus in the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, with the addition of reserve wines that keep the style consistent. After the second fermentation it ages at length on its lees in the crayères, the ancient Gallo-Roman chalk pits beneath the house, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the glass, citrus, white fruit, flowers and a light brioche note, with fine, creamy bubbles and a fresh, mineral finish. An elegant and versatile Champagne, perfect as an aperitif and throughout a meal with raw seafood, oysters, light fried dishes and fish.
