Curlan Pinot Nero Riserva 2019 – Girlan

Girlan is the cooperative winery of Cornaiano (Girlan), above Bolzano, one of the Alto Adige producers that have worked hardest on Pinot Noir. Curlan is its flagship Pinot Noir, the result of years of research and small-batch trials to identify the best parcels. This bottle comes in its original wooden case.

It comes from three parcels totalling just over a hectare at about 500 metres, around Cornaiano, on poor, gravelly moraine soils over volcanic porphyry. After fermentation in steel it matures for about 20 months in barriques and small casks, then moves to large casks and spends a long time in bottle before release.

The 2019 is a Pinot Noir of structure and finesse: small red berries, cherry, sweet spice and a hint of forest floor, with silky tannins and good depth. It can keep evolving for years. With duck, roast white meats, mushroom dishes and game birds.
