Don Luigi is the flagship red of Di Majo Norante, the Campomarino winery that took Molise wine beyond its regional borders. The name is a tribute to Luigi Di Majo Norante, patriarch of the family and the estate.
It is a Molise Rosso Riserva based on Montepulciano with a small share of Aglianico, from organically farmed vineyards on limestone soils a few kilometres from the Adriatic. After a long maceration the wine matures in French oak barriques for about a year, then spends some months in bottle.
2017, a hot vintage, produced a concentrated, generous red: blackberry, plum, sour cherry, cocoa, sweet spice and soft tannins, with its 15% alcohol well absorbed. A Montepulciano of real substance, on a par with the best of central and southern Italy at an honest price. With lamb, braised meats, ragù and aged cheeses.
