Le Macchiole 2021 – Le Macchiole

Le Macchiole is one of Bolgheri's iconic estates, founded by Eugenio Campolmi and now run by Cinzia Merli, famous worldwide for Messorio, Paleo and Scrio. The Bolgheri Rosso is the gateway to its philosophy: the same vineyards, the same hand, a wine designed to be enjoyed younger.

The grapes come from four of the estate's five vineyards. Merlot leads the blend, with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Syrah. After fermentation in stainless steel the wine ages about ten months, mostly in second- and third-fill barriques and partly in concrete, so the fruit stays centre stage.

2021, a vintage with a dry, steady end of season, produced a fragrant, juicy red: red and black fruit, Mediterranean herbs, light spice and soft tannins. The best way to get to know the Le Macchiole style, with grilled meat, pasta with ragù or Tuscan salumi.
