Montefalco Sagrantino 25 Anni 2011 – Arnaldo Caprai

If Sagrantino di Montefalco is now a great red known around the world, much of the credit goes to Arnaldo Caprai and his son Marco, who led its revival from the 1990s through research in vineyard and cellar. 25 Anni is its flagship: born with the 1993 harvest to celebrate the estate's twenty-fifth anniversary, it has kept the name ever since.

It is pure Sagrantino from selected grapes in the estate's Montefalco vineyards. The wine ages 24 months in barrique and at least eight months in bottle: the oak serves to tame Italy's most powerful tannins without dulling their character.

2011, a warm vintage, produced a rich, enveloping Sagrantino that, more than ten years on, shows full development: blackberry jam, plum, nutmeg, pepper, cocoa and balsamic notes. Among the most celebrated and long-lived Sagrantinos. With lamb, wild boar and aged cheeses.
