Arnaldo Caprai is the winery that brought Montefalco Sagrantino onto the international stage. This is a limited edition from the #Caprai4Love project, launched in 2013 to support Montefalco's artistic heritage: the 2021 release marks 700 years since the death of Dante Alighieri.
The label, by Canadian artist Rick Rojnic, reinterprets the portrait of Dante painted by Benozzo Gozzoli in the 1452 fresco cycle in the San Francesco Museum in Montefalco, and proceeds helped fund the restoration of those portraits. The tissue wrap carries the last line of the Inferno: "And so we went out to see the stars again". Inside is a Montefalco Sagrantino 2015 aged in barriques. The bottle comes in an individual gift box.
Blackberry, plum, black pepper, cocoa and leather, with vigorous tannins and a balsamic finish. A powerful Sagrantino and a gift with a real story behind it. With game, lamb and aged cheeses.
At a glance: Sagrantino 100% · 14.5% ABV · 0.75 l · Arnaldo Caprai, Montefalco (PG)
