Nuracada 2018 – Audarya

Audarya is a winery in Serdiana, in the Parteolla area north of Cagliari, which has made a name for itself with its focus on the traditional grapes of southern Sardinia. Nuracada is its flagship red, dedicated to Bovale, an ancient and rare island variety.

The vineyards lie at around 160 metres, on calcareous clay soils. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation in wood and matures for about twelve months in small oak barrels: ageing that brings roundness and complexity without dulling the grape's character.

Bovale gives deeply coloured, well-structured wines: the 2018 shows small red and black berries, sweet spice and Mediterranean scrub, with soft tannins and a warm finish. With lamb and suckling pig, red meat, game and aged Sardinian pecorino. A red that tells of a less familiar Sardinia than Cannonau.
