Tancredi is one of the signature reds of Donnafugata, the Rallo family's Sicilian winery, which named its wines after Tomasi di Lampedusa's The Leopard: Tancredi is the Prince of Salina's favourite nephew. This is the special edition created with Dolce&Gabbana, dressed in a design by the fashion house that celebrates the colours of Sicily.
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola and Tannat from the Contessa Entellina estate, in the hills of south-western Sicily. It ages for about 14 months in oak and at least 22 months in bottle before release.
The 2020 is deep ruby, with plum and blueberry, liquorice, balsamic and toasty notes; the palate is enveloping, with fine tannins. Serve with red meat, game or grilled tuna; a striking bottle to give as a gift, too.
