Turriga is the signature wine of Argiolas, the Serdiana family that brought Sardinia among the greats of Italian wine. Born with the 1988 vintage from the work of Giacomo Tachis together with Mariano Murru, it is named after a marble statuette of the Mother Goddess more than five thousand years old, found in the Turriga area and now in the Cagliari Archaeological Museum.
It is a Cannonau-led blend with Carignano, Bovale Sardo and Malvasia Nera, from vineyards between Senorbì and Selegas. The wine ages for 18 to 24 months in French oak barriques and then rests for over a year in bottle.
The 2020 is a powerful, Mediterranean red: ripe dark fruit, myrtle, scrub, sweet spice and cocoa, with broad, velvety tannins. A great classic among Italian reds, to keep in the cellar and pair with suckling pig, lamb, game, braised meats and aged Sardinian pecorino.
