Seven vintages of the same Nebbiolo side by side: 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 (2017 was not produced). It is the best way to understand Giovanni Canonica, a small grower in the village of Barolo and one of the most reserved and sought-after names in the Langhe.
Canonica makes just a few thousand bottles in total, the traditional way: long macerations, large casks, no filtration and no corrections. That is exactly why each vintage shows its own season so clearly: warmer and riper in 2015, elegant and complete in 2016, fresher and leaner in 2018, down to the very young 2021 and 2022.
A vertical like this is hard to find and almost impossible to put together bottle by bottle. Ideal for a tasting among serious friends or for a collector's cellar.
