Zenato is one of the best-known wineries in the Verona area, based in Peschiera del Garda with vineyards in both Lugana and Valpolicella. Its Amarone is one of its signature wines, from the estate's vineyards at Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, in the Classico zone.
In keeping with Amarone tradition, the best grapes are left to dry for about four months and pressed in January, followed by a long fermentation on the skins. The wine then ages for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks and rests further in bottle before release.
2018 produced a rich, warm Amarone, as its 16.5% alcohol suggests, yet well balanced: cherries in spirit, prunes, raisins, cocoa, sweet spice and tobacco, with soft tannins and a long finish. With braised and slow-cooked meats, game and well-aged cheeses, or on its own after dinner. A classic Amarone offering good value.
