Badia a Passignano is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione that Antinori makes from the estate named after the abbey, in the heart of Chianti Classico: 223 hectares, 65 of them under vine, between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, on limestone-rich soils with a fair amount of clay.
It is 100% Sangiovese. After destemming, the berries are sorted and gently crushed; fermentation lasts about 10 days, followed by another 10 of maceration on the skins. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine matures for several months in French oak barrels and, in small part, Hungarian oak, then rests in bottle.
The 2022 has a fruity, floral profile: sour cherry, red currant, dog rose and lavender, with hints of chestnut honey and a touch of iron. On the palate it is full, with marked freshness, fine silky tannins and a long, savoury finish. With aged cheeses.
