The Alessandria brothers are one of the historic families of Verduno, with a winery active since 1830. Verduno is the northernmost village of Barolo, known for perfumed wines with a fine texture; San Lorenzo, made since 1997, comes from the vineyard of the same name next to the famous Monvigliero.
The vineyard faces south at 240 to 260 metres, on medium-textured, silty calcareous soils. After a long fermentation in steel the wine ages for about three years in Slavonian and French oak casks of 20 to 40 hectolitres, in the traditional way.
2006 is a classic, austere vintage with firm tannins that needed time. Today the wine is fully evolving: cherries in spirit, dried rose, spice, tobacco, leather and forest floor, with Verduno's typical finesse. A mature Barolo to serve with braised beef, game or tajarin with truffle.
