Segura Viudas is one of the historic houses of Cava, based in the Penedès in Catalonia, a few kilometres from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, the capital of Spanish sparkling wine. Reserva Heredad is its best-known label, instantly recognisable by its striking bottle with a metal crest and base.
It is made by the traditional method, with second fermentation in bottle and more than 24 months on the lees, well beyond the minimum for a Cava Reserva. This long rest gives it complexity and a fine, creamy mousse.
Straw yellow in the glass, with lightly smoky notes, bread crust and biscuit, then honey, white fruit and flowers. The palate is fruity and full yet stays elegant. Excellent as an aperitif, with white fish, cured ham and soft cheeses, and a handsome bottle for special occasions.
