Ciman 2019 – Elio Sandri

Ciman is Elio Sandri's "protest" wine. Sandri is a small grower in Perno, a hamlet of Monforte d'Alba, farming the Cascina Disa vineyards organically. The name refers to cement, and for good reason: the Nebbiolo comes from parcels registered for Barolo, but because it never sees wood it cannot bear the appellation and is sold as a simple red wine, identified by a lot number rather than a vintage on the label.

The grapes come from old vines in Perno, on marl; spontaneous fermentation, then more than four years exclusively in concrete tanks. The aim is to show Nebbiolo in its purest form, without the imprint of oak.

This bottle comes from the 2019 harvest, a classic, fresh Langhe vintage. In the glass, rose, cherry, blood orange, herbs and an earthy touch, with firm tannins polished by the long ageing and great freshness. A Barolo that cannot be called Barolo, for lovers of artisanal wines. With tajarin, braised beef or aged cheeses.
