Tenuta San Guido is in Bolgheri, the estate where the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC was born. Guidalberto is another red from the same house, made as a Toscana IGT from vineyards in the Tuscan Maremma.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are harvested from early September to mid-October and fermented in stainless steel at 30-31 °C, with about 15 days of maceration. The wine then ages for 15 months in French oak barriques, with a small share of American oak, followed by 3 months in bottle.
The 2023 is a brilliant ruby, with wild berries, coffee and Mediterranean scrub. The palate is full, with lively tannins and a long finish. Serve at 18-20 °C with red meat, ragù pasta, game and aged cheeses.
