Rainoldi's Inferno Riserva 2013 Valtellina Superiore DOCG is an intense and minerally mountain Nebbiolo, produced on heroic terraces in the heart of Valtellina, in one of the most rugged and fascinating subzones of the appellation.
This wine is made from Chiavennasca grapes (100% Nebbiolo) grown between 450 and 650 meters above sea level in the Inferno subzone, characterized by extreme slopes and rocky soils of fluvio-glacial origin. The Rainoldi winery, founded in 1925, is now led by Aldo Rainoldi, who combines tradition and innovation with a sustainable and artisanal approach. The fresh and balanced 2013 vintage allowed for a slow and aromatic ripening of the grapes.
Vinification involves fermentation in stainless steel with long maceration on the skins, followed by aging for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels and 12 months in bottle. The result is a wine of great elegance and depth, with a complex aromatic profile: red fruits, dried flowers, alpine herbs, spices, and iron notes. On the palate, it is fresh and upright, with fine tannins and a pronounced minerality, reflecting the alpine character of the terroir.
With an alcohol content of 13% vol, Inferno Riserva 2013 is perfect paired with red meats, game, Valtellina pizzoccheri, and aged cheeses, but also as a meditation wine for lovers of mountain-style Nebbiolo.
