Castello di Nipozzano, in Chianti Rùfina north-east of Florence, is one of the historic estates of the Marchesi Frescobaldi, a Florentine family that has been making wine for more than seven hundred years. Nipozzano Riserva is the wine that has represented the estate and the appellation for generations: a classic, elegant and long-lived Chianti Rùfina.
It is made from Sangiovese with a small share of complementary varieties (Malvasia Nera, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). Fermentation is spontaneous in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with maceration in vats and malolactic in steel; at the end of the year the wine moves into barriques, where it matures for about 24 months, before finishing its ageing in bottle.
2022 began with good soil water reserves, followed by a mild winter, a sunny March and a hot, dry summer tempered by Rùfina's typical breezes and by rain in late August and September. Intense, bright ruby, it offers red and black fruit, citrus, violet, rose and spice; the palate is harmonious, fresh, fruity and mineral. With roasts, bistecca alla fiorentina, game and pecorino. The Magnum slows its evolution and is the ideal format for large gatherings.
