Tenuta Olim Bauda is a family estate at Incisa Scapaccino, in the heart of the Nizza area, the appellation created for the most ambitious Barberas of the Monferrato around Asti. The family has owned its vineyards since 1961, and Barbera has always been at the centre of its work.
The Riserva comes from old south-facing vines on sandy clay marls of marine origin. The hand-selected grapes ferment in oak vats with manual punch-downs; the wine then ages for about 30 months in 25-hectolitre French oak casks and continues to mature in bottle. A measured use of wood that leaves room for Barbera's fruit and acidity.
2017, a hot and dry vintage, produced a full, ripe Barbera now in a lovely phase of evolution: ripe black fruit, plum, spice, cocoa and still vibrant freshness. With braised meats, bollito misto, game and aged cheeses.
