Pinot Nero L'Eterno 2014 – Feudi del Pisciotto

Feudi del Pisciotto is an 18th-century estate at Niscemi in south-eastern Sicily, now also a wine relais, linked to Paolo Panerai's project and the early consultancy of Giacomo Tachis. L'Eterno is its Pinot Noir, made since 2011: the label shows a hand from the Eterno triptych by Giacomo Serpotta, the great Palermo stucco artist, whose restoration was funded by the estate.

The vines lie at around 270 metres on medium-textured, rather sandy soils. The wine ferments in steel and ages for 12 months in new French oak barriques, followed by some months in bottle.

The 2014 is now around ten years old: the red fruit has matured and makes room for dried rose, spice, undergrowth and balsamic hints over tannins that have softened. A Mediterranean Pinot Noir off the beaten track. With pigeon, duck, mushrooms or seared tuna.
