Radici Taurasi 2015 – Mastroberardino

Mastroberardino is the name most closely tied to Irpinia and Taurasi: this family defended and revived Campania's historic grapes, Aglianico, Fiano and Greco, when others were chasing international varieties. Radici, made since 1986, is their benchmark Taurasi, and the name, meaning roots, is a statement of intent.

It is pure Aglianico from two vineyards at around 450 metres: Montemarano, on clay, and Mirabella Eclano, on deep sandy soils. After about fifteen days of maceration it matures for 24 months in French barriques and Slavonian oak casks, then for roughly the same time in bottle.

2015, a warm and generous vintage, produced a rich Taurasi well supported by the grape's typical acidity: sour cherry, plum, tobacco, spice and balsamic notes, with dense tannins that are starting to relax. A Southern classic with long ageing potential. With lamb, braised meats, game and aged caciocavallo.
