Musella is the Pasqua family estate at San Martino Buon Albergo, just outside Verona: over 50 hectares of vineyards and woods, farmed biodynamically on soils rich in red clay. Alongside Amarone and Valpolicella, the winery makes this Recioto, the sweet wine from which Amarone historically originated.
Hand-picked Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes are dried for several months in the drying loft, losing much of their water and concentrating sugars and aromas. The spontaneous fermentation stops leaving residual sweetness, followed by long ageing in tonneaux and then in bottle.
The 2017 is deep ruby with garnet hints, showing cherries in spirit, prunes, berries, cocoa and spice; the sweetness is balanced by freshness and tannin. In a half bottle, the ideal size to end a meal: with biscuits and dry pastries, red fruit tarts, dark chocolate and blue cheeses.
