Quintodecimo is the Mirabella Eclano winery founded by Luigi Moio, professor of oenology at the University of Naples and one of the most authoritative names in Italian wine, together with his wife Laura. Terra d'Eclano recalls ancient Aeclanum, the Roman town that stood on these Irpinian hills.
It is a pure Aglianico from five estate vineyards planted in 2001 at 420 to 460 metres, on soils partly clay and partly volcanic. Yields are very low and the wine ages for 12 months in oak barriques, half of them new, followed by long bottle ageing.
More than ten years after the harvest, the 2013 is an Aglianico that has reached maturity: black fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and mineral notes, with the grape's dense tannins now more refined. A great red of the South, to serve with braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
