Trattmann is the flagship Pinot Nero Riserva of Girlan (Cornaiano), the historic Oltradige cooperative founded in 1923 and today one of the benchmarks for Pinot Nero in Alto Adige, a grape it works with particular dedication.
The grapes come from the oldest and best-sited vineyards of the Bassa Atesina, on east-facing slopes at 380 to 430 metres with deep clay and limestone soils, and partly from the Oltradige hills. The wine ferments in stainless steel with a small share of whole bunches, then ages for about a year in barriques and small casks and a few months in large casks, before resting in bottle.
The 2021 is a fine, deep Pinot Nero: cherry, raspberry, forest floor and delicate spice, with silky tannins and good freshness. Serve with white meat, duck, mushroom dishes, salmon or medium-aged cheeses.
