Pietro Rinaldi is a family estate based at Madonna di Como, in the hills of Alba, making the Langhe classics in a traditional style. The Barbaresco San Cristoforo comes from a vineyard at Neive, on one of those hilltops known in Piedmontese dialect as bricchi.
Winemaking is classic: fermentation in temperature-controlled steel for about ten days, then 16 to 18 months in large 25-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks that respect the fruit and transparency of Nebbiolo.
2011 was a warm vintage that produced generous, open Barbarescos. Almost fifteen years on the wine is fully mature: garnet with orange tints, red fruit preserves, dried violet, liquorice, tobacco and leather, with tannins now velvety. With braised meats, finanziera, white truffle and aged cheeses.
