Beyond the Clouds 2020 – Elena Walch

Elena Walch is one of the best-known names in Alto Adige: the Tramin winery, now run by her daughters Julia and Karoline, played a key role in the region's quality revival. Beyond the Clouds is its Grande Cuvée, the estate's flagship white.

It is a blend of the estate's finest white grapes, mostly Chardonnay, picked at full ripeness and vinified together. It ferments in new French oak barriques, with partial malolactic, and ages for about ten months in wood with regular lees stirring.

The 2020 is a rich, complex white: ripe yellow fruit, candied citrus, toasty and hazelnut notes, with freshness balancing the structure and a long finish. A white that holds its own among the great barrel-fermented whites and ages gracefully. With lobster, baked turbot, shellfish risotto and white meats.
