Rocca di Montegrossi is the winery of Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi, a descendant of one of Chianti's oldest families, at Monti in Chianti in the commune of Gaiole. Geremia is his Bordeaux-style red, designed to show how Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon can express the character of this corner of Chianti Classico.
About 70% Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon making up the rest, from vineyards at San Marcellino. The wine ages for around two years in medium-toast Allier oak barriques and then rests another eighteen months in bottle, unfiltered, before release. Production is limited.
2012, a hot and dry year, produced a rich, concentrated wine that, more than ten years on, has reached full maturity: black fruit, plum, cocoa, graphite, tobacco and balsamic notes, with softened tannins and a long finish. With fillet steak, game, duck or aged cheeses.
