Castelfeder is the Giovanett family winery at Kurtatsch/Cortina in the Bassa Atesina. The Glen vineyard, above Montan, is the most closely tied to the family's history: founder Alfons Giovanett planted it in 1969, and from there the view takes in much of Alto Adige's vineyard land.
The vines climb from 450 to 790 metres, facing the afternoon sun, on a mixed soil of loam, limestone and porphyry. The hand-picked grapes macerate for 10-14 days in stainless steel; the wine then ages for 12 months in barriques and at least three months in bottle. The label shows a bridge of the old Val di Fiemme railway.
The 2022 is ruby red, with small red berries, a hint of spice and lovely freshness; the structure is balanced and the drinking elegant. Pair it with white meats, duck, mushroom dishes and grilled red meat.
At a glance: Pinot Noir 100% · 13.5% ABV · 0.75 l · Castelfeder, Alto Adige
