Movia is the Kristančič family estate in Goriška Brda, the Slovenian Collio, with vineyards straddling the Italian border. Led by Aleš Kristančič, it is one of Slovenia's flagship wineries and a reference point for artisanal wines, made with organic and biodynamic farming.
Black Label (Etichetta Nera) is Movia's Ribolla Gialla (Rebula in Slovenian) with a short skin maceration: after 18 hours of cold maceration, fermentation starts spontaneously with native yeasts in wood, and the must stays in contact with the skins for about two days. The wine then ages for around eight months on the fine lees, half in oak barrels and half in stainless steel.
In the glass it is straw yellow with golden highlights and orange nuances. On the nose, orange zest, pineapple, thyme and chamomile with a saline hint; the palate is fresh, mineral and savoury, with good body and a long finish. Serve at 8–10 °C with mushroom risotto, grilled fish, fish stew, white meats and fresh cheeses.
