Tenuta di Trinoro is the creation of Andrea Franchetti, who in the early 1990s planted Bordeaux varieties in an isolated valley near Sarteano, in southern Tuscany, where nobody thought great wine could be made. The first vintage was 1997, and Trinoro has since become a reference for lovers of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with a Tuscan accent.
The vineyards sit on hillsides with big day-night temperature swings, and harvest is often late: the grapes reach the cellar very ripe. The resulting wine is rich and intense, but with a freshness that sets it apart from the coastal Bordeaux blends.
The balanced 2019 vintage gives a dark, deep Trinoro: black fruit, graphite, herbs, spice and dense, ripe tannins. A great wine for ageing, to pair with serious red meat dishes.
