Testarossa is the flagship line of Pasetti, an Abruzzo winegrowing family with high-altitude vineyards inside the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. The name, meaning "red head", pays tribute to the beauty of the red-haired women of the Pasetti family.
The Montepulciano comes from Pescosansonesco, at around 550 metres, on clay-loam and calcareous soils: an unusual altitude for the grape, which gains freshness and finesse here. After fermentation in stainless steel the wine goes into concrete and then ages at length in second- and third-use French oak barriques, so the wood supports the fruit without masking it.
The 2021, labelled Riserva, is an intense, structured Montepulciano: dark fruit, sour cherry, spice and balsamic notes, with soft tannins and lively acidity from the altitude. Perfect with arrosticini, lamb, braised meats, game and aged cheeses such as Abruzzo pecorino.
