Ca' dei Frati is one of the historic estates of Lugana, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, and among the founders of the DOC in 1969. The Dal Cero family bought it in 1939, and it was Pietro, son of founder Felice, who began bottling wine: the Amarone bears his name and is the house's flagship red, made in Valpolicella.
Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta are left to dry for several months before crushing, following the traditional method; a long ageing in wood then gives structure and roundness to a very concentrated wine.
More than ten years after the harvest, the 2012 has begun to show tertiary notes: cherries in spirit, prunes, chocolate, sweet spice and balsamic hints, with a warm, enveloping palate. It comes in its original wooden case. With braised meats, game, blue or long-aged cheeses, or simply for meditation.
