Martinenga is one of Barbaresco's great crus and a true monopole: around twelve hectares owned exclusively by the Cisa Asinari family, Marchesi di Gresy. The amphitheatre of vines, facing south-southwest, borders Asili and Rabajà, two of the appellation's most famous names.
The Nebbiolo undergoes long fermentation and maceration, then the wine ages for twelve months in French oak barriques and a further twelve in Slavonian oak casks, followed by a year in bottle. A style that combines the finesse of the cru with a well-integrated touch of small oak.
2008, a cool, classic vintage in the Langhe, produced elegant wines with good acidity. The Martinenga is now fully mature: dried rose, red fruit, tobacco, undergrowth and polished tannins. An evolved bottle to pair with braised meats, game, roasts and aged cheeses.
