Domenico Clerico was one of the leading figures of the "Barolo Boys" revolution in Monforte d'Alba, famous for powerful, modern Barolos such as Ciabot Mentin and Pajana. In 2006 he looked beyond Monforte and bought a vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba: this is where Aeroplanservaj comes from, a name meaning "wild aeroplane", his father's nickname for his restless spirit.
The vineyard, in the Baudana cru, lies at around 340 metres facing west-southwest, on fossil-rich Sant'Agata calcareous marls. 2007 is only the second vintage of this wine.
A warm year that produced generous, open Barolos. The wine is now evolved: ripe red fruit, liquorice, spice, tobacco and polished tannins, with the power typical of Serralunga. With braised meats, game, red meat roasts and aged cheeses.
