Massolino is one of the historic families of Serralunga d'Alba, in the village since 1896 and closely tied to Vigna Rionda, one of Barolo's most celebrated crus. Today the winery is run by brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino and their families, in a rigorous, classic style that has set the standard in Serralunga.
The Barolo is a blend of grapes from several estate vineyards, on medium-textured, mainly calcareous soils. Long fermentation and maceration in oak vats, then up to thirty months in large oak casks: no shortcuts, even for the entry-level wine.
2019 is a classic, beautifully balanced vintage, with perfumed Nebbiolo and fine tannins. In the glass: red fruit, rose, delicate spice and a hint of liquorice; the palate is taut, with firm yet elegant tannins and good depth. Enjoyable already, it will improve with a few years in the cellar. With braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
