Massolino is one of the historic families of Serralunga d'Alba: the estate was founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino and its first Barolo dates from 1947. Today it is run by brothers Franco and Roberto and their families, with vineyards in some of the village's best-known crus, starting with Vigna Rionda.
The house's "classic" Barolo is a blend of several estate parcels on medium-textured, calcareous soils. Vinification is traditional, with long macerations, and the wine ages in large Slavonian oak casks for around thirty months before a period in bottle.
2016 is regarded as one of the most complete Langhe vintages of recent decades. The wine has the rigour of Serralunga: red fruit, rose, spice, balsamic notes and dense yet fine tannins. Already enjoyable after good aeration, with many years ahead of it. With braised beef, game, tajarin with ragù and truffle.
