Cantina Massara is Gian Carlo Burlotto's estate in Verduno, now run with his children Gianluca and Claudia. The family has made wine since the early twentieth century; in 2013 Gian Carlo took over the cellar and vineyards and gave the estate its current name. Not to be confused with G.B. Burlotto, another historic winery in the village.
Monvigliero is Verduno's most famous vineyard, a south-facing slope in the northernmost commune of Barolo. It is known for perfumed, spicy Barolos, more elegant than powerful, with fine tannins: a very different profile from Serralunga or Monforte.
2016 is one of the great recent Langhe vintages, cool and even, giving wines of structure and finesse. Here you find rose, small red fruits, white pepper and undergrowth, with tannins still lively. Drink now with a good decanting or keep in the cellar. With tajarin and truffle, braised beef, finanziera.
