Grattamacco 35ª Vendemmia 2017 – Podere Grattamacco

Grattamacco is one of the pioneering estates of Bolgheri: founded in 1977, when the Tuscan coast was just discovering its gift for great reds, it has been part of the Tipa family's ColleMassari group since 2002. Grattamacco is the estate's flagship wine, and the 2017 celebrates its thirty-fifth harvest with a dedicated anniversary label.

The blend is unusual for Bolgheri: alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot there is a share of Sangiovese, which brings tension and a more Tuscan character. The organically farmed vineyards lie on the hill between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, and the wine ages for around 18 months in barriques.

2017, a hot and dry vintage, produced a rich, enveloping red: ripe red and black fruit, herbs, balsamic and spicy notes, Mediterranean scrub, soft tannins and a long, warm finish. With roasts, game and aged cheeses; a collector's bottle for lovers of classic Bolgheri Superiore.
