Ornellaia is, with Sassicaia, the wine that brought Bolgheri onto the international stage. Founded by Lodovico Antinori in the early 1980s, with its first vintage in 1985, the estate now belongs to the Frescobaldi family. Each vintage has a name and an artist in the Vendemmia d'Artista project: 2020 is La Proporzione (Proportion), interpreted by Joseph Kosuth.
It is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from the estate's various vineyards, vinified separately and aged in French oak barriques for about a year and a half.
The vintage name has a precise reason: in 2020, for the first time since 1985, all four varieties ripened at the same time, and each made a significant contribution to the wine. In the glass: ripe black fruit, spice, liquorice, menthol and chocolate, with power and concentration balanced by freshness and well-defined tannins. A great Bolgheri for the cellar. With lamb, fillet steak or game.
