Stefano Antonucci runs the Santa Barbara estate in Barbara, in the hills inland from Jesi. It started in 1984 with a few vineyards inherited from his father and has become one of the most dynamic wineries in the Marche. Alongside the Verdicchio that made its name, Antonucci has always nurtured a passion for international varieties.
Pathos is the synthesis of that passion: a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, carefully vinified and aged in barriques for around a year and a half. The name reflects the idea behind the wine, combining power and elegance in a red of real structure.
In the glass it is deep ruby, with ripe black fruit, herbs, spice and toasty notes; the palate is full and juicy, supported by well-integrated acidity and tannin. An international-style red from the Marche that works well with braised meats, game, red meat roasts and aged cheeses.
