Amarone Classico Riserva Bosan 2016 – Gerardo Cesari

Gerardo Cesari founded his winery in 1936 and was one of the pioneers of Amarone, among the first to introduce it to export markets. Bosan is its flagship: a single-vineyard Amarone Riserva, made only in the best vintages.

The Bosan vineyard lies at Marano di Valpolicella, at around 500 metres, on pergola-trained terraces with calcareous soils of volcanic origin. Corvina and Corvinone, with a small share of Rondinella, are dried for about ninety days; ageing then lasts several years between stainless steel and French oak barriques, followed by a long rest in bottle.

2016, cool in spring and settled in September, produced a beautifully balanced Amarone: cherries in spirit, dried fruit, cocoa and spice on a warm, enveloping palate. One of the benchmark Amarone Riservas of the Classico zone. With braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
