Anna Maria Abbona founded her estate in 1989 at Moncucco di Farigliano, in the higher Langhe, and was among the first women to run a winery in the area. Best known for Dogliani, she later extended the range to Barolo and now also grows Nebbiolo at Monforte d'Alba.
The Barolo is pure Nebbiolo, vinified and aged traditionally, in a classic style that aims for finesse and definition rather than power or oak.
2013 was a cool, late vintage, regarded as one of the most classic and elegant of the decade in Barolo. The wine has now reached full maturity: cherry, dried rose, spice, leather, liquorice and first hints of truffle and undergrowth, with tannins still firm but well integrated. With braised beef, roasts, game, truffle tajarin and aged cheeses.
