Barolo Bricco Boschis 2012 – Cavallotto

Cavallotto is one of the emblematic families of traditional Barolo. The Bricco Boschis estate in Castiglione Falletto has belonged to the family since 1928, and the Cavallottos have bottled their own wines here since 1948. Bricco Boschis is their hillside Barolo, the wine that best expresses this amphitheatre of vines at the heart of the appellation.

The grapes come from several parcels within the cru, facing south-east to south-west. In the cellar: indigenous yeasts, long macerations and then extended ageing, over several years, in large Slavonian oak casks. No barriques, in keeping with the house style, built for austere, long-lived wines.

2012 was a warm vintage that produced generous, fairly approachable Barolos. Now more than ten years on, the wine is moving into its tertiary phase: ripe red fruit, dried rose, tobacco and forest floor, with the firm tannins typical of Castiglione Falletto. Perfect with beef braised in Barolo, game and aged cheeses.
