Barolo Lazzairasco 2013 – Guido Porro

Guido Porro is a small grower in Serralunga d'Alba, the fourth generation of a family that sold its grapes for decades and only more recently began bottling. One of those artisan producers sought out by lovers of traditional Barolo, far removed from fashion in both style and spirit.

Vigna Lazzairasco is a parcel of about two hectares with vines several decades old, on clay and limestone soils. The wine ages for around three years in medium-sized Slavonian oak casks, as the previous generations did: simple, barrique-free winemaking that lets the Serralunga terroir do the talking.

2013 is a classic vintage, cool and late-ripening, that gave Barolos with lovely acidity and firm tannins, well suited to ageing. Today the wine shows red fruit, rose, spice and early tertiary notes of forest floor and leather. With braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
