Cont'Ugo 2019 – Tenuta Guado al Tasso

Cont'Ugo is the Merlot of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, the Bolgheri estate that came to the Antinori family through the della Gherardesca family, the historic lords of this land. The property spreads across the Bolgheri amphitheatre between the sea and the hills and is best known for Guado al Tasso itself; Cont'Ugo is its Merlot-focused counterpart.

The vineyards lie at around fifty metres, on alluvial clay-sand and clay-silt soils with stones. After fermentation in steel the wine goes through malolactic in barrique and ages there for about a year before resting in bottle.

2019 is a vintage of balance and freshness in Bolgheri. Deep ruby, with aromas of cherry, sour cherry and raspberry, herbs, spice and cocoa; the palate is juicy, with soft tannins and a balsamic finish. An elegant Mediterranean Merlot, for grilled meats, pigeon, duck or medium-aged cheeses.
