Poggio al Tesoro is the Bolgheri estate of the Allegrini family, the renowned name in Amarone della Valpolicella. Dedicato a Walter is the wine Marilisa Allegrini created in memory of her brother Walter, who died in 2003, the year of the first vintage: a pure Cabernet Franc, a grape that finds a particularly happy expression in Bolgheri.

It comes from the Sopra Strada vineyard along the Via Bolgherese, on red sandstone over deep clay. After fermentation in steel with a long maceration, the wine ages for about two years in new French oak barriques.

2007 is one of the early vintages of this wine, and it is now in its most mature phase: evolved blackberry and blackcurrant, sweet tobacco, graphite, balsamic notes and Mediterranean herbs, with velvety tannins and a warm finish. An Italian Cabernet Franc of rare breadth, now hard to find. With game, slow-cooked stews and aged cheeses.
