Elisabetta Foradori is the grower who restored the reputation of Teroldego, the native grape of the Piana Rotaliana in Trentino. From the 1980s she worked on massal selection from old vines and, from the early 2000s, converted the Mezzolombardo estate to biodynamics; today she runs it together with her children.
Foradori is the house's benchmark Teroldego, from around nine hectares of pergola and guyot vines on alluvial gravel and sand laid down by the Noce river. It ferments in concrete tanks and matures for about twelve months between cask and concrete, giving a wine that puts fruit and place ahead of oak.
The 2023 is a juicy, lively Teroldego: blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry and a touch of pepper, with fine tannins and a freshness that calls for a second glass. With pasta in meat sauce, cured meats, grilled meats and medium-aged cheeses; lovely young, but it will hold for a few years.
At a glance: Teroldego 100% · 12.5% ABV · 0.75 l · Foradori, Mezzolombardo (TN)
