Guado al Tasso is the flagship of the Antinori estate in Bolgheri, which came to the family through the della Gherardesca, the historic lords of this land. The first vintage was 1990, and the name, the badger's ford, recalls the natural fords and wild landscape of the area.
The vineyards lie at the foot of the Bolgheri amphitheatre, on alluvial sandy-clay and silty-clay soils with gravelly patches. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc changes proportions every year; the wine matures in French oak barriques before bottling.
2016 is one of the most successful vintages of the last decade in Bolgheri, with a balanced season and wide day-night temperature swings at the end. In the glass blackcurrant, blackberry, Mediterranean herbs, spice and cocoa, with fine tannins and a lovely fresh backbone. A Bolgheri Superiore of great balance that can stand beside the area's most famous names. With lamb, game or steak.
